Behind him, the dark-complexioned Rama carries a bow and flower garland, his red and white attire richly detailed. Young Lakshman follows in teal-green, bearing a quiver of arrows and a bow. A lush, rounded tree with finely stippled dark-green foliage anchors the right side, while a bright red border frames the entire composition with regal formality. A pale blue sky band at the top adds atmospheric depth to this otherwise flat, icon-like composition.
This painting belongs to the Pahari miniature tradition of the hill kingdoms of North India, likely from the Basohli or Kulu school, dating to the late 17th or early 18th century.
