The muted, layered colour harmonies are hallmarks of Yoshida's masterful woodblock technique, where dozens of carved blocks were hand-pressed to achieve this luminous effect.
Hiroshi Yoshida (1876–1950) is celebrated as the foremost master of the shin-hanga ("new prints") movement. His India and Southeast Asia series, created after his 1931 travels, are among the most sought-after Japanese woodblock prints in the world. This Udaipur scene perfectly marries Japanese printmaking precision with deep reverence for Indian architecture and light.
